WASH Coordinator exposes unhygienic water packaging

Addressing water-harnessing entrepreneurs at SLSB’s Old Road Ferry Junction office, Mrs. Bah explained that water is highly needed by the human body for existence and also for survival, which is why water must be properly treated before consumption.
She explained that some sachet water producers lacked the required quality and standards as well as the ideal production site.
Mrs. Bah displayed grotesque picture of how some of these water sachets are produced in very unhygienic condition. She warned that impromptu supervision will soon commence at these production sites and defaulters will face the brunt of the law.
The head of Sachet water producers, Mr. Prince Johnson said that efforts have been made over the years to improve the production quality but however producers need to do more. He urged those who have not registered with the commission to do so in their own interest.
Miatta Graywood of the Water Resources Ministry also urged sachet water producers to comply with the new water guidelines as very strong partnership has already been established with the SLSB to ensure that the maximum standards are met.
Mohamed Kargbo, head of water at the commission said the institution was setup in 2011 by an Act of Parliament to regulate the two sectors to the highest quality for the consumers and fair tariffs as well as reasonable returns for those in the business in a safe, reliable and consistent matter.
