According to social media leaks, the ugly hullabaloo started when the Executive Secretary of the Commission, Mary A.M. Rogers, approved and released a notice on an official government letterhead, announcing the new posting of Local Council Core Staff.
In a shameful twist, few days later, the Chairman of the Commission, Donald A. Ngegba approved and released a press release by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development instructing the Executive Secretary to withdraw her March 5 letter pronouncing the posting.
As if that embarrassment was already not enough, the chairman further ordered mayors and chairpersons of local councils to immediately cancel and completely discard the executive secretary’s purported posting.
To many people who spoke to this writer last evening, the issue became more embarrassing to the Bio’s New Direction government when the Chairman and his Executive Secretary resulted to taking what was supposed to be an internal issue to the public through social media for redress.
As a result, there have been several calls from Sierra Leoneans for President Julius Maada Bio and his government through the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development to intervene and save them all the pending embarrassment.
Just late yesterday, in what many have described as an open challenge to her bosses authority to ask her to withdraw the posting, madam executive secretary issued a release standing by her decision to uphold the decision to continue the posting.
“I write to inform all mayors/chairpersons and core staff of local councils that the commission still maintains its position on the postings of core staff in the social media on 18th March 2019.”
