MAF Inspects Western Area Farm Sites



The visited farms are funded by Small Holder Commercialization and Agribusiness Development Project (SCADeP), under the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. 

SCADeP is aim at promoting agricultural commercialization through market linkages, market access improvement and support to State and Non-State Actors.

The visited sites include: Songo Loko, Manyaian, Newton, Ogu Farms and Campbell town with 150, 25, 30, 50 and 200 acres of Inland Valley Swamp (IVS) cultivated with Rice.

The District Agricultural Officer for the Western Area Madam Kabbasei Sillah added that her team is working tirelessly with the farmers in the region to ensure food self-sufficiency and overall economic development of the participating enterprises. 

Mr Kamara underscored the importance of the farms and the role played by the district office in ensuring effective and efficient collaboration and coordination among the groups.  He said his visit is to get first-hand information on progress and challenges facing the project. He added that the New Direction government is to provide support to the fight against hunger. He concluded by praising the District Agriculture Staff and Management for the support provided and called for more effort in order to achieve the objective of the project.

Explaining the progress of the SCADeP project, the District Agriculture Officer for Westerns Area Madam Jane Kabbasei Sillah lauded the efforts of the farmers amidst the difficult challenges. Madam Sillah comprehensively introduced her team to the SCADeP project, Agriculture Business Canters among others.  She cited staff challenges, mobility and feeder roads to enhance the work of farmers.
