Professor Thomas Gbamanja of the University of Sierra Leone made mentioned of the recent result of West Africa Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination which according to him, many girls came out with excellent grades.
He described the excellent performance of girls at the recent West African examination as a Success to the nation, whiles pointing that some pupils were in the habit of disrespecting their teachers and admonished them to desist from such act.
The head of social welfare committee in parliament, Hassan Sesay stated that one of the ways for a nation to achieve success was to invest in girl child, and went further to affirmed that it was very important for parents to encourage their girl child especially in the area of education.
First lady of the Republic of Sierra Leone, Sia Nyama Koroma in her keynote addressed maintained that the nation was going through difficult times due to the national disaster that befell the nation, and seized the opportunity to express condolence to the flood and mudslide victims
The first lady continued that the current camping happened to be the fourth national girl’s camp and it was established to empower vulnerable girls, and to serve as an inspiration for perfect and logical thinking, and at the same time broaden their horizon.
Other speakers present at the occasion were the deputy minister of foreign affairs and international cooperation, representative of the University of Sierra Leone, and partners of the camp admonished the girls to make good use of the opportunities provided by the Camp.
