He was quoted to have said that many young graduates from the aforementioned department at FBC were unemployed and they needed to practice other profession that could better their lives.
According to the President of Peace and Conflicts Department Abdul Kpaka, the peace studies department was established immediately after the civil war in 2002. He maintained that the statement made by Dr. Yumkella was degrading, and his views on the employment status of Sierra Leone were inappropriate and misleading.
Kpaka said that KKY should apologize to students of the said department, and further condemned his statement, whiles describing it as an unfortunate and baseless, owing to the fact that peace and conflict studies is one of the most important courses for any job market.
The deputy coordinator for KKY Movement at the Fourah Bay College, Kandeh Kolleh Kamara described the press briefing as unfortunate and politically motivated.
According to him, instead of the students target Dr. Yumkella’s genuine statement, rather they should advocate to the Ministry of Education that in point of fact deprived them of their academic privileges.
He added that the statement made by the leader of KKY movement was twisted and it was not meant for any negative reason, adding that the press briefing was a clear manifestation of witch hunt and a war of calumny against the leader of the Kandeh Kolleh Yumkella Movement, he noted.
