Deputy Minister, Youth Affairs, Lusine Kallon has handed over a water pump machine to youths that are gainfully employed at the Progressive Car Wash Center, Stand 17 Siaka Stevens Stadium, Brookfields in Freetown.

Speaking at the event, Lusine Kallon reminded them of President Julius Maada Bio’s determination to empower youths across the country and that this is being done through skills creation and middle level man power through establishment of car wash centers across the country as one way of ensuring that youths are gainfully employed.

He added that it was against this background despite the fact that the Progressive Car Wash Center, Stand 17 Siaka Stevens Stadium had been established some months ago, the Youth Affairs Ministry was now donating a pumping machine so that while some youths will be engaged in washing cars, others that have the skills and knowledge about repairing tires would also have the opportunity of being gainfully engaged in this aspect.

He added that this intervention will help mitigate violence, crime rate and idleness among youths while ensuring that youths are able to use the facilities for their survival and that of their respective families. He encouraged them to take good care of the pumping machine and the other facilities at the Progressive Car Wash Center, Stand 17. He thanked them for putting measures in place to ensure control and discipline at the car wash.

Receiving the machine, Chairman of the Progressive Car Wash Center, Stand 17, Ibrahim Sawaneh thanked the Deputy Youth Affairs Minister for the gesture and promised that it would be used for the intended purposes.

In a related development, the Deputy Youth Affairs Minister and entourage officially handed over a newly-constructed modern car wash center with facilities for youths at Cline Town, east of Freetown. Before officially cutting the tape to the new car wash, Lusine Kallon reminded the youths that it was the wish of President Bio to empower the youths and that this is just one of the ways the president is demonstrating his love and care for youth development. He encouraged them to use the facility properly and to ensure that they put measures and modalities in place which would ensure that the facility is protected and that youths that would be engaged in it stay away from violence.
