The Deputy Minister of Youth Affairs, Lusine Kallon has joined some Members of Parliament and different youth-based organizations including the Youth Council to receive the first Sierra Leonean Speaker of the 5th Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Parliament, Hon. Sidi Mohamed Tunis.
The newly-elected Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament currently serves as the Leader of Government Business in Parliament.
Speaking to journalists from different media houses, Lusine Kallon said Sierra Leone is a member of the ECOWAS Parliament and has got representation in the ECOWAS Youth Council through the appointment of Sheku Foryoh, as President of ECOWAS Youth Council.
He said the appointment of Hon. Tunis is a blessing for Sierra Leone, adding that he is going to serve the entire West Africa in the highest decision-making embodiment of peace, unity and regional security.
Hon. Sidie Mohamed Tunis, who is representing the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) in the Sierra Leone House of Parliament was on Monday 9th March, 2020 elected and sworn-in as Speaker of the regional ECOWAS Parliament.
The installation of the 5th Legislature of the ECOWAS Parliament took place at the Mahatma Gandhi Conference Center in Niamey, Niger and saw Hon. Tunis, SLPP MP for Constituency 101 in Pujehun District succeeding his Senegalese predecessor, Mustapha Cisse Lo, as Speaker of the Regional Legislative Council. Hon. Tunis will serve in this capacity for four years.
“I will meet with all political parties and the former President of Sierra Leone, Dr. Bai Koroma,” the Speaker of ECOWAS Parliament said, describing himself as “the uniform” in Sierra Leone.
He promised to work with the ECOWAS Youth Council to ensure that their mandate is operational.
ECOWAS Youth Council, President, Ambassador Sheku Foryoh extended his profound thanks and appreciation to all members of the ECOWAS Youth Council, prospective youth leaders, members of the Fourth Estate, the House of Parliament, the Ministry of Youth Affairs for their immense support in expressing solidarity at welcoming the newly-elected Speaker of ECOWAS Parliament, Hon. Sidie Mohamed Tunis.
