The Chief Executive Officer and Founder of Madam Planner, Miss Ishiatu Fofanah, has disclosed plans by her company to organize a one-day Transformation Forum for commercial sex workers in Freetown. 100 sex workers will benefit from the training slanted on the 6th of March 2020. Fofanah said the location of the training will remain undisclosed in order to protect the identity of the participants. The forum will be convened on the Theme: Realising Women’s Rights by Transforming the Lives of Commercial Sex Workers for Economic Empowerment.
According to Miss Fofanah, the event is part of her efforts to fulfil her company’s commitment of contributing 10% of its profit to towards empowering vulnerable girls by providing training, Business grants and mentorship to commercial sex workers.
Miss Fofanah stressed that many of these girls became commercial sex workers due to social and financial challenges they are faced with. She said they also face daily stigmatization, human rights abuse and violence by law enforcement officers, their clients and society in general, noting that with all this they hardly speak out or report those issues.
Despite their status, they can contribute to national development; society should not neglect them. We should work harder to transform them into meaningful citizens pleaded Ms Fofanah.
At the forum, the participants will have a chart with various speakers, share their experiences with them, and the speakers will inspire them to work on Transforming their lives to contribute towards socio-economic and political development. The forum will be a platform to sensitize the participants on sexually transmitted diseases and prevention. It will also be used as an opportunity to educate them on the coronal virus and its prevention.
