All People’s Congress’ (APC’s) Deputy Chairman and Leader, Alhaji Minkailu Mansaray has invited His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio to promptly intervene and address his party’s concerns relating to the registration confirmation process launched by the National Civil Registration Authority (NCRA), which the Party has considered unconstitutional.
He made this call during a press conference held at the Party’s headquarter on Old Railway Line in Brookfields, Freetown.
He said this is a call by the Party for President Bio’s prompt action, adding that if the President allows the NCRA confirmation to go on, “it will be undermining the democracy of the State.”
The APC Party, Mr. Mansaray went on, is expecting President Bio to make a declaration calling on citizens to register or confirm their information as far as it concerns electoral processes, especially now that the process is still ongoing.
“We are expecting President Bio to take an executive decision to verify the ongoing NCRA verification process to ensure that the processes do not go against NEC’s constitutionality among other reasons” the APC second chief alerted.
National Publicity Secretary for the APC, Sidi Yayah Tunis, claimed that the registration confirmation process launched by the NCRA is unconstitutional and that the NCRA has no right to carry out Voter Registration.
He said getting details of citizens in the country by region for one week is not sufficient, noting that they (APC) only recognize the National Electoral Commission (NEC) as the fit and constitutionally mandated institution to handle election registration and not the National Civil Registration Authority.
The ‘personal detail confirmation’ process was recently launched to verify information/data of citizens and non-citizens who have registered with the NCRA in the country.
