Ag. National Publicity Secretary Sidi Yaya Tunis

The acting National Publicity Secretary of the All People’s Congress (APC) Party, Sidi Yaya Tunis has said that the press release and utterances made by the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) officials blaming them for the fracas that ensued past weekend was an embarrassment to them and the country.

He said the fracas that took place around Ecowas Street has been labeled as an attack by APC on SLPP. This he said was the biggest joke of the year because APC supporters had to leave Railway walked through the streets of Freetown, the police and the people of Freetown did not see them until they arrive at Ecowas Street where they caused skirmishes.

“I don’t think the APC supporters are magicians neither they flew to the central business district that the police and people were unable to see them or reach them and them from launching such attack. It is a disgrace and embarrassment for them to try to cover up the fracas that ensued between their supporters and trying to blame our party.”

Tunis said even the police in their press release knew that it was impossible for APC to have crossed hundreds of meters to go and attach SLPP without them stopping them on the way. He said that is why they did not mention the APC.

“We hope the police will continue their investigation to prove that it was an intraparty affair rather than blaming the APC for something they did not know about. During that period many people were in Church and they were not expecting such in the city and they came out of the Church to be engulfed in the fracas.”

The former flag bearer of the party, Dr Samura Kamara addressing members of the party at the secretariat told them to keep calm and they should not engage in any activity that will bring disrepute to the party and themselves.

He said they should be law abiding and they should not engage in any war of words or violent attack.

“Even when we are not involved they are forcing us into the brawl that took place on Sunday. Many other attacks have taken place and we have been blamed for them. We must be very cautious not to let them have their way with us. Let us avoid them in every way possible so that peace will be maintained in the country.”

He said he is a law abiding citizen and he hope all of them will follow his example because they are in opposition and they will continue to be victimize, but if they stay away from violence it will be better for them and the party.
