According to him, he is into growing swamp rice, soya beans and vegetables and that since he entered the agric field, government has been doing extremely well with its supports to local farmers, especially in the area of seed loan.

He said government has been giving free rice seed loan to farmers to improve agriculture and strengthen food security in that part of the country and that this has helped to encourage more farmers to continue farming in large quantity.

To date, he said government has succeeded in giving out rice seed loans to Four Thousand, Five Hundred and Fifty-Five (4,555) farmers across the district and that Three Thousand, Eight Hundred and Eighty-Seven (3,887) kilograms of seed rice have been distributed to farmers on free loan.

However, farmer Bundu cited several challenges that needed prompt government intervention if sustainable and sufficient food security is to be attained in the district. One of such challenges according to him is young people scaring away from farming, a major challenges he said has made labor to become very much expensive in the district.

When asked to advice government on how sustainable and sufficient food security will be achieved in the district, Mr. Bundu went on to say more attention must be given to funding.

He said government should work towards capacitating its field loan recovery supervisors and also the director of agriculture in the district, noting that the latter is currently incapacitated especially in the area of movements.

He said as it is now, the director has got only an old dilapidated vehicle that cannot be used to reach all the areas to recover loans from farmers.

He expressed joy that the government has thought of establishing seed banks in all regions but further advised that more stores be built to store seeds and crops for protection from pests and insects.
