The Ministry of Youth Affairs has visited fishing communities in coastal towns on a sensitization drive of the Youth in Fisheries Project.

The sensitization tour took the team to seven (7) districts of Bonthe, Pujehun, Moyamba, Kambia, Port Loko, and Western Area Rural and Urban.

Led by the Youth in Fisheries Project Manager, Maada Lahai, the team held discussions with various community stakeholders on the implementation of the project.

The project’s revolving fund is procuring fishing boats, outboard engines and fishing gears for community people, who pay back over a period of time for others to benefit.

The team emphasised the need for stakeholders to take ownership of the project by leading monitoring or supervision endeavors.

The various communities were adequately and accordingly sensitised on the interest-free business model of the project.

The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Andrew Lawrence Sorie, said the minster and his deputy continue to play leading roles in ensuring the success of the project that supports youth empowerment in various communities.

It could be recalled that the Youth in Fisheries Project ran into difficulties during the precious administration as a result of poor management and politicisation of the project.
